Naked Six Interview – Seb Byford

*** TRANSLATION BUTTON BELOW ***

Hallo Rocker!

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Hi Seb, how are you doing?

Seb Byford:
Hellooo!! Very well thanks, we’re just in Glasgow at the moment at King Tut’s

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Tell me your bands story…

Seb Byford:
Me and the drummer Tom Witts met at school in North Yorkshire around 4 years ago and it all started from there really. We started listening to music together and then eventually started playing and writing together. Until 6 months ago we were actually just a two piece but have now got Callum Witts, the drummer’s cousin on bass to give the sound that extra meat!

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Who’s part of NAKED SIX?

Seb Byford:
Seb Byford- Guitar/Vocals
Callum Witts – Bass
Tom Witts – Drums

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Where does your bands name come from and how did you came up with the idea for it?

Seb Byford:
We get a lot of questions surrounding the name, most people expect to see six naked dudes onstage at our shows but the name is far from that for us. We came up with the name around the idea of the sixth sense, we’re quite deep thinkers so we thought it fitted quite well. You can take what you want from it though, it can be anything you want it to, at the end of the day it’s the music that matters.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Where do you see yourself musically seen, what are your influences?

Seb Byford:
We have a wide range influences I guess, we listen to stuff ranging from queens of the Stone Age to Curtis mayfield. But I think in terms of our main influences for the stuff we have released and are writing at the moment is bands like Radiohead, pearl jam, queens of the Stone Age.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
You released NO COMPROMISE lately – what’s the story behind it?

Seb Byford:
We were very angry at the time of writing “no compromise” it was a mix things. Trust and loosing something that you once held so close. Through time and experience trust is built, once established it becomes unimaginable to be without it. When that trust is broken a wall is built, no compromise embodies that journey. A lot people hide behind the mask of ego. Once you see beneath that mask, their true colours show…leaving you with the question, did I ever know you at all? It’s a black and white world.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Which topics do you talk about in your songs?

Seb Byford:
It varies I guess, we sing about the way we’re feeling, the way we see things and the way things are. It can sometimes be political and other times a bit more personal, we don’t want to be pigeon holed into a certain style of writing things, we want to keep the doors open.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
What are your experiences as a young upcoming rock band?

Seb Byford:
Just having fun I guess, playing together, meeting people and travelling. If you ain’t enjoying it then there’s just no point, learn from the lows and ride the highs.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
What are your goals with the band?

Seb Byford:
For our music to be heard and appreciated for what it is. We just wanna keep playing and playing, that what we live for. We’d love to get off this island at some point as well, touring Europe is something we’ve been wanting to do for a while.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Which song of your band should everyone know and why?

Seb Byford:
Hmmm that’s a tough question. If we had to pick any it would probably be Let It Out. To us that track means quite a lot as the lyrics revolve around personal experience and that of others close around us.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
If you could support any band on tour, who would it be?

Seb Byford:
Jack White would be insane !!

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Where are your upcoming shows?

Seb Byford:
At the moment we’re just half way through our tour with The Vintage Caravan. Next we’re in Manchester at Rebellion then we finish off the tour in Bristol at the Exchange. Then we head back on the road with The Amorettes playing 8 shows across the UK, head to our Facebook page for details.

COMEBACKSTAGE:
If you should convince a young person to listen to rock music, which song would you show him/her and why?

Seb Byford:
Johnny B Goode by Chuck Berry – It’s the roots of rock n roll, you can’t go wrong with a bit of Chucky!

COMEBACKSTAGE:
If you could have a fantasy dinner with three persons of your choice, who would you invite?

Seb Byford:
Gordon Ramsay (he can cook)
Willy Wonka
Robin Hood

COMEBACKSTAGE:
Thanks a lot for your time Seb! The last words are yours…

Seb Byford:
Thanks for having us, stay tuned, big things are coming

Eure Ornella.
Long live Rock’n’Roll!
